WAITING FOR THE TRAIN
Columns in the NYC subway system reveal decades through layers of multi-colored paint that exists in a perpetual state of change due to water corrosion, time, and humans peeling off the paint as they wait for the train. These factors contribute to creating random and colorful designs that only exist for a short amount of time before being covered by the next layer of paint. Captivated by this beautiful decay, I started photographing the unintentional abstract compositions, and transforming them into large, colorful oil paintings. Each painting is a unique stamp in time and a record of ephemeral beauty found in an otherwise dull and depressing setting during a humdrum commute.
