WAITING FOR THE TRAIN
Columns in the NYC subway system reveal decades of history through layers of multi-colored paint, constantly changing due to water corrosion, time, and the actions of people peeling off the paint as they wait for the train. These factors create random and colorful designs that exist only briefly before being covered by the next layer of paint. Captivated by this beautiful decay, I began photographing these unintentional abstract compositions and transforming them into large, colorful oil paintings. Each painting is a unique snapshot in time, capturing the ephemeral beauty found in an otherwise dull and depressing setting during a humdrum commute.
